Today we’re going to look in detail at a beautiful house in Cape Cod. The house itself was bought and completely renovated by designer Sandra M Cavallo and her husband. They’ve mixed quirky personal touches with traditional work and I’m sure you’ll agree, the effects are stunning!
My favourite thing about the house is the effortless way they’ve intertwined nature with modern design in the house. From the outside, the natural stone cobbles, the abundance of greenery and the obvious weathering point to a sincere appreciation of nature.
Inside is no different – this is a modern house with very natural, neutral tones. Its light and airy feel is complimented perfectly with the choice of colours on the walls. Thanks to the large windows throughout, the house has an effortless brightness within the rooms. This natural light allows Sandra to avoid big, harsh artificial lighting. Avoiding the harsh lighting adds to the wonderful softness of the home.
The soft furnishings add a dash of the contemporary. The ease with which they fit within the wider design of the home shows a real eye for detail and an appreciation of how to mix styles well.
I mentioned how effortlessly Sandra and her husband have mixed nature within their home.
In particular I’m referring to the exposed beams in the roof, the unpainted wooden doors, stone fireplaces, wooden lintels and the chopping boards make the natural materials used in the house an aspect of the design – they are celebrated rather than hidden, which is something I personally love.
We should celebrate beautiful natural materials more, don’t you think?!
I love the fact that nature is so celebrated here. It’s a nice antidote to the harsh glass, chrome, steel and sharp lines we see in so many modern houses. A tasteful nod to tradition – these houses will never go out of fashion. They’re timeless.
