It was a classic New York apartment in one of Fifth Avenue’s most exclusive buildings, with city views—including an enviable panorama of Central Park—in all four directions. The clients, a hotel magnate and his stylish wife, had enthusiasm and energy to burn (and a rare budget to match).

In the living room, a pair of Jacques Quinet armchairs is upholstered in leather and a velvet from Stark, the circa-1970 cocktail table is by Gabriella Crespi, and the ’40s bronze chair by André Arbus and Gilbert Poillerat is covered in a Prelle fabric; the painting over the mantel is by George Condo, the aluminum piece is by Rudolf Stingel, and the rug is custom made.
A letter wall sculpture by Jack Pierson and a Jansen console in the dining room; the walls are sheathed in mica panels, and the vintage sconces once belonged to Doris Duke.
The breakfast room includes a table by Hervé Van der Straeten, Jacques Adnet armchairs upholstered in a leather from Holland & Sherry, and a temperature-controlled wine room.
The painting in the entry is by Andy Warhol, the custom-made table is by Bonetti, and the Pedro Friedeberg Hand chair is from the 1980s; the Austrian light fixtures are from the ’60s, and the custom-made stainless-steel-and-lacquer doors have H. Theophile hardware.
The dining room light fixture is vintage Lobmeyr, the 1940s René Drouet chairs are upholstered in an Edelman leather, and the table by Maria Pergay holds a collection of glass obelisks by Venini and Baccarat. The fireplace surround is made of antiqued-mirror panels, the glass moldings were originally designed by Dorothy Draper for the Hampshire House, and the faux-bamboo mirror is early-20th-century French; the diptych is by Aaron Young, and the custom-made rug was inspired by the night sky.
The walls and headboard in the master bedroom are covered in a cashmere-silk by Holland & Sherry, the bedside tables are by Samuel Marx, the lamps are by Roberto Giulio Rida, and the French stools are from the 1940s; the chair and ottoman are by Jansen, and the curtains are made of a Clarence House silk adorned with Swarovski crystals, beading, and embroidery by Jean-François Lesage.
The cabinetry in the wife’s dressing room is lacquered in a custom lavender, the desk and chair are by Jansen, and the stools are by Silas Seandel; the Lobmeyr light fixture is from the ’60s, and the custom-made carpet is by Beauvais Carpets.
